The revitalization of the building that is now known as the Cactus Theater, located at 1812 Buddy Holly Avenue, occurred in 1993. The structure was originally built way back in 1938, as Lubbock’s first suburban neighborhood-oriented theater. Don and Teri Caldwell had a vision to bring the fantastic talents of local West Texas musicians to a unique venue in the Depot District. Their passion and drive allows people like me (not musically gifted whatsoever) a chance to see amazing live music performances every single weekend.
If you’re looking for a great date night idea in our community… Have a nice dinner at Triple J and then cross the street to enjoy a great show at the Cactus!
Parking Tip: You can park along Buddy Holly, at the Buddy Holly Center, or in the Triple J parking lot.
We attended a Fleetwood Mac/Eagles/CSN tribute show which was nothing short of fantastic. Everyone in the band was local talent, right here in our own backyard. I was blown away by their amazing vocal and musical skills. There are shows at the Cactus that fit into every musical genre: from ’50s to ’60s to ’70s to folk to rock.
We strongly encourage you to get their signature Cactus ‘Rita before the show. Going all out? There’s a variety of wines and beers, and even the hard stuff (Malibu, Jack, etc). If you’re hungry for a snack, they have you covered with candy, pickles, and their delicious popcorn. Ladies… be sure to check out the restrooms during the intermission break for a guaranteed laugh… you’ll see why!
Box office hours at the Cactus are Monday – Thursday from 1:30 to 5:30pm and Friday – Satuday from 1:30 to 9:00pm. Or, purchase your tickets online- where they’re always open! You can even pick out the actual seats you want in the theater.
