*UPDATE: Be sure to check out the Cast Iron Grill Food Truck!*
Cast Iron Grill has the right idea to put the desserts right before the hostess stand. Those images stay in your mind as you walk to your table and you think yeah, maybe I’ll get dessert… especially when after taking our order the waitress asked if we wanted to go ahead and order dessert before they run out. Yes, sounds like a perfect idea.
The special this day was pot roast which I ordered with macaroni and cheese and fried green beans. It was all delicious and the coconut cream pie I had already ordered watched me enjoy lunch as if saying, “save enough room for me!”
Already full but not going to pass up a dessert waiting for me – I took on the coconut cream pie. We are talking fresh ground coconut here. Enough said.
The waitresses hit the mark with a sweet n’ sassy attitude, the space hit the mark between rustic without being dirty, and yadda yadda yadda – let’s get back to the food.
Teresa is the owner and was the hostess each time I went. You can read her story and “Teresa’s Tidbits” at www.castirongrilllubbock.com. Based on the line waiting to be seated when we left at noon on Wednesday and Friday, I don’t think Cast Iron Grill is any secret.
But if you work on the west or south-side of town like me, maybe you haven’t discovered Cast Iron Grill. If so – invite your coworkers and boss (an easy way to make it a long lunch) and head downtown. My words of advice: get there at 11am and yes, you want dessert.
