We ventured about 45 minutes east to Crosbyton & had a blast exploring the edge of the west Texas caprock. Looking for a summer adventure? Here are some suggestions around the Crosbyton area:
- Drive the Escarpment: If you’ve ever driven through Crosbyton, you may notice the terrain changes drastically from very flat lands to a 1,647 ft drop off the Caprock Escarpment. It’s beautiful and an amazing shift in topography. You only have to drive a couple of miles to really see it. We also loved the “drive by” historical markers near Silver Falls Park to learn about the area.
- Silver Falls Park: One of the largest roadside parks in Texas. Park your car and explore! There are stairs down to the falls area and overlooks. It’s a bit challenging to get to the actual falls, so be careful! People have been visiting Silver Falls at least since the 1500s. Even Texas Tech students in the 1940s would take the Crosbyton-Southplains Railroad. This railroad is now abandoned, but you can see some of tracks off E. Municipal drive in Lubbock.
- Stuffology: While driving around the Crosbyton town square, we came across the cutest boutique. A really large store full of clothes, home décor, Consuela bags, jewelry, and so much more. Follow on Facebook.
- Crosby County Pioneer Memorial Museum: Located at 101 W. Main Street, this museum is quaint & informative. There are 45,000 artifacts depicting the lives of the Native Americans & Pioneers who have inhabited the area for hundreds of years. We loved seeing some of the original furnishings from Estacado, the original Quaker colony in West Texas. Estacado is about 25 minutes west of Crosbyton and is worth the visit to see the townsite marker & cemetery. More info here.
- White River Lake: 25 minutes South of Crosbyton is White River Lake. You can boat there plus there is a nice recreation area with a beach & picnic tables. We enjoyed driving around the Blanco Canyon.
- Other Cool Stuff:
Crosby County Veterans Memorial, downtown shopping, the city pool & splash pad.
