“Mom, we have this idea for a blog but can’t think of a catchy name for it. What do you think?”
And just like that, Lubbock in the Loop was born…
In May 2012, three ladies came together determined to prove that Lubbock is NOT boring. Here is a bit of our story. We met at at a now closed café called D’Vine Wine (RIP) in the Kingsgate shopping center. With wine in hand and an apple brie pastry, we brainstormed. Would it be a blog? Keep in mind that even just ten years ago social media was not what it is today. Our very first article was Manna Bread & Wine (RIP) followed by Lubbock libraries and Caprock Winery (now English Newsom). Our goal was to showcase things to do in Lubbock for adults, kids and everyone in between. Over the past 12 years, we’ve evolved quite a bit and we’ve grown organically. Here are some interesting tidbits about LITL and how we’re different:
- Female owned & operated by Lubbockites and Texas Tech alumnae.
- Original and independent: We are not associated with any other Lubbock organization or businesses.
- No click bait or pop-up ads! The site is a free resource that is reliable and honest.
- Consistency: We’ve regularly posted on our website and social media for ten years with no breaks.
- We build/maintain the website, write the articles, take the photos, run the social media… you name it, we do it. We have had guest writers and interns in the past. Shout-out to them – we couldn’t have done it without y’all!
- Why are we relatively anonymous? Whenever we visit places, we don’t want people to give us any special treatment because they know that we will be writing an article or posting about them on Insta. That means when you read our articles or see our social media posts, we had a positive experience.
- The Coming Soon page was not part of our original concept and in fact we launched that on August 15, 2013. It has become one of our most popular pages. It really drives people to the site. We do all of the research and have been able to establish great relationships with commercial real estate companies, developers and businesses. We typically don’t add to this page unless we have confirmed with at least three sources. However, keep a careful eye on the Rumor Mill. Some of it is true, but we don’t have the green light to announce!
- We created a site called ChristmasinLubbock.com a few years ago! It is a dedicated holiday website with features like the Lubbock Light Map, holiday events, giveaways, and ways to give back to the community. We LOVE this site!
