West Texas Adventures are back for the spring/summer season! We love to showcase towns in the 806 that are a short drive from Lubbock and offer a bit of history, food, shopping, hiking, and adventure! This is a great way to get out of town on a budget and support local businesses in our region.
Olton is about 52 minutes from Lubbock. If you take the Plainview route, be sure to check out our Plainview: West TX Adventures feature.
- Rejino Barbeque: Rejino has put Olton on the map as a destination location for BBQ. During our visit, we saw a couple who travels around the country trying BBQ and they are repeat visitors to Rejino. It was a busy Saturday with people coming in from all over to pick-up orders or to dine-in. They have a nice screened in patio with picnic tables which was very nice if you want the outdoor feeling without the bugs (and wind). We don’t name “best”s very often, but this may be the best BBQ we’ve had. Why? All of the meat was perfectly cooked & tender. There wasn’t too much fat & the portions were great. Such an excellent value for the price! We tried the shredded pork, sausage, brisket, and burnt ends. All amazing. We got the baked potato casserole and pinto beans for the sides which were great as well. The staff were super kind and kept checking on us. We can’t wait to go back!
- Rejino Market: The market is attached to the restaurant but deserves its own listing. We were impressed by all that they offered. You will find drinks, Volleman’s delicious dairy & lemonade, homemade salsa, chips, baked goods, ready-to-go casseroles, meat to-go, fresh produce, salads, & more.
- Fleurish Flowers & Gifts: Wow! This place was a surprise & such a gem. If we’re honest, we didn’t expect to find this type of boutique store in Olton. This is why we love doing West TX Adventures. First of all, there is a super cute mural on their building. Very Instagrammable or Snapchat or BeReal (whatever the kids do these days). Walking in the door, you are welcomed by colors & beautiful displays. Fleurish has everything: clothes, shoes, Swig cups, candles, hat bar, home décor, El Arroyo items, accessories, & more. To say the least, we left here with some bags! Shop online.
- Steel Grace: WHAT! A second boutique in Olton? Located on the Main Street, Steel Grace is full of thing’s you’ll love. Any Consuela fans out there? They had a large selection of bags! They also have kids clothes, candles, Bogg bags, accessories, shoes, home décor, drinkware, a men’s area, hats, metal art, Olton Fillies gear & more! Shop online.
- Sand Crawl Museum: This extensive museum, housed along with the Olton Area Library in a repurposed hardware and lumber store, focuses on the history of Olton and Lamb County with many buildings full of unique exhibits. Named for the sand crawl formations south of town, the museum features a series of murals and exhibits on the history of farming, ranching, and daily life in the area. Outdoor exhibits feature windmills, farm equipment, a half-dugout house and replicas of sand crawl formations, along with a Quanah Parker Trail giant arrow marker commemorating the area’s Native American heritage (Texas Time Travel). Open Monday-Friday 9am-5:30pm with free admission.
- Olton City Park: Tired from all of the exploring? Take a break at the park or have a picnic. They have covered picnic tables, a playground, swings, a walking path, and big grassy area.
- There are many great places we didn’t get to stop by but the locals tell us everyone must visit the Woods of the Plains shop, The Turnrow Sports Bar, Laura’s restaurant, Anna’s Mexican Restaurant, Pizza Parlor, and Nena’s Place.
